Day Tour to Dambovicioara, Rucar-Bran Pas & Valea Cetatii Caves and Keys

Dâmbovicioara Cave and Keys:

Dambovicioara cave, situated in the carstical area of the Rucăr-Bran passage, is one of the most important speleological area in our country. Located in the southern part of Piatra Craiului Mountains, Dambovicioara canyon, the access gate towards Dambovicioara cave, impresses through its massive stone walls, the narrow and wild passage. The cave has a constantly moderate humidity, preponderantly dry, with a temperature between the 10th and the 12th Century, consisting of only one gallery of a total length of 555 meters. Although it is a relatively small cave comparatively to other caves found on the Romanian territory, due to the exceptional location and its shape, the Dambovicioara cave is still visited annually by a large number of tourists. It is estimated to be at least 300.000 years old and during the first world war it served as a shelter for two famous outlaws, Fulga and Budac. These two became well known for their acts of robbing the wealthy and rich people and giving their money to the poor.

Rucăr-Bran Pas:

The Rucăr-Bran corridor, known also as the Rucăr-Bran passage, crosses a rural area with a special charm that surprises through its purity, natural beauty and its history. Practically we are passing a massive defile, the millenial link between the realms of Muntenia (known also as Valahia, or Țara Românească) and Transylvania, the famous link that was established from before even the Roman Empire of the East. The defile separates the massive mountains Bucegi, the second mountain in terms of height from Romania (2501 meters), from Piatra Craiului, (with a height of 2235 meters) two mountains full of rich fauna, incredible natural reservations. The route begins at the former border of Bran, through which large numbers of merchants and foreigners used to pass the border with their carts heavily loaded in hopes of fruitful trade, up to the former borders of Transylvania, located in the heart of the mountains.Winding roads, deep valleys, with scatterd houses at hundreds of meters one from another, with clouds so close to the ground you could just touch them….a unique and melancholic scenery that’s impossible to forget. This historical, medieval road impresses every passer. On the hills there can be spotted herds of sheeps and cows grazing peacefully. In the old days, the Saxons that lived in Transylvania used to cross over the mountains in order to trade the goods with the rich Romanians from Țara Românească (Valahia).

Citadele Valley Rasnov – Fundata Cave:

Valea Cetății cave, surrounded by a splendid natural scenery, is located between the Poiana Brașov touristic resort and the touristic town Brașov. It became a tourist landmark in 2010 and it is considered one of the most beautiful cave in the Eastern Europe. The Valea Cetății area is a natural reserve extending over 18 thousand acres of forest. The area in which Valea Cetății cave is located is depicted by canyons, narrow and steep valleys. The cave is over 1000 meters long, but the area accessible to the public is limited to only 350 meters. Although it is dated to be hundred of thousands of years old, it was discovered only in 1949. Because of extreme meteorological phenomena, the area became known under the name of Valea Dracului, the Valley of the Devil. The lightning system inside the cave is specially designed to be non-aggressive and unobstructed towards the families of bats that inhabit the cave. The cave has a large and imposing entrance with many calcareous formations, and the main interior hall has a remarkable acoustic. In the main hall, distinguished by a 30 meter height and a constant temperature of 8-10C, are organized weekly concerts of symphonic music, the honorable guests being the Philarmonic Orchestra from Brașov.
