Peles PalacePeles Palace: It’s over-the-top opulent with 160 rooms, a lot of them with different themes, like the Turkish and Moorish salons, rooms designed in Baroque and Rococo. Amazing carved and inlaid wood floors, panels, and ceilings, statues, paintings, armour and weapons, luxurious furniture, leaded glass windows. From the outside, the castle looks like a really nice hunting lodge with statues and fountains on the grounds, and an elegant clock tower. It’s on a hill surrounded by rich forests and the towering peaks of the Carpathians.

Curtea de ArgesCurtea de Arges: Is the oldest church in Wallachia where the former Royal family of Romania is buried. All the Wallachian kings took a special interest in this monastery as there’s a legend behind the construction of this Church. Every thing that that it was built in the day was crumbling over night until the chief of the builders “Manole” had a dream. God appeared in the dream and told him that they need to build a woman within the walls of the church so it wouldn’t crumble anymore. Find out what they did and how they finished the construction of the church on this tour

Poienari FortressPoienari Fortress: Is placed on the highest cliff around Arges gorgeous at 850m, sorounded by spectacular landscape and to get here you’ll hick the 1480 steps. The first documents mentioning poienari fortress are from the 14th century when here was only a surveillance tower.
In 1457 Dracula used the unfaithful landowners to rebuild it.

DraculaOn Easter Day in he trapped them at the religious service in the church and forced them to walk to Poienari.  Once there, he raised his sword toward the old fortress ruins and ordered them to repair and consolidate it in 1 week. It's hard to believe this can be the truth, but the legend says that the people preferred hard work instead of being impaled. Lots of them lost their lives there as they had to climb the steep hill, but they finished the construction in 1 week, as ordered. All those alive were forgiven by Vlad Tepes because he decided they'd learned their lesson. There are moore legends about this place and Dracula but you’ll hear them all on this tour.

Vidraru Dam

Vidraru Dam: Was founded in March 1966 and is located on the Arges River on an area of 28 km length. The construction took five and a half years. They drilled 42 km of underground galleries were excavated 1,768,000 m³ of rock, of which about 1 million m³ in underground bands have 930,000 m³ of concrete, of which 400,000 m³ underground and were mounted 6300 tons of equipment electromecaniceBarajul Vidraru was at the time of inauguration, the fifth in Europe and ninth in the world among similar buildings.

Transfagarasan Highway: Was build between 1970-1974. It's 92 km of twists and turns long road and for the construction they dislocated 3 million ton of rock. Ceauşescu wanted to ensure quick military access across the mountains in the event the Soviets attempted a similar move into Romania. Consequently, the road was built mainly with military forces, at a high cost both financially and from a human standpoint—roughly 6 million kilograms of dynamite were used. Transfagarasan HighwayIt has more tunels (a total of 5) and viaducts than any other road in Romania. Near the highest point, at Balea Lake (2043m), the road passes through the longest road tunnel in Romania (884 m).In September 2009 the cast and crew of the British television show Top Gear were seen filming along the road. The segment appeared in first episode of Series 14, which first aired November 15, 2009. Host Jeremy Clarckson claimed they had made a mistake in naming the Stelvio Pass as the best road in the world and instead Transfăgărăşan should have this title.

Day trip to Harman Fortified Church

Harman Fortress: The church is thought to have been built by the Cistercian monks, an obscure order of Roman Catholics originating in France, who were severe in their beliefs in reformism and simplicity (they’re now affiliated with the Benedictines and Trappist monks).
The sect gained popularity in Hungary, and considering the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s presence in Transylvania, explains how they ended up here.
The Cistercian monks didn’t last long, and the church was taken over by Saxons and fortified.
Like Prejmer, the walls also have chambers in which residents could take refuge. Unfortunately, this fortified church wasn’t able to fend off invaders as well as Prejmer, and fell under siege 47 times!

Prejmer Forterss: The fortress in Prejmer is definitely the most impressive fortified church in Transylvania.
The church was built by the Teutonic knights in the 13th century and then the local community of Saxons built the wall for protection.
What’s really interesting about this fortified church is that within the walls are 272 chambers, and each one is numbered exactly as the houses in the village.
They did this so that each household would have a place to store supplies in case they were attacked.
Behind the chambers is a passageway that goes along the perimeter of the wall, where guards were stationed to toss arrows or boiling oil at the attackers.
We can actually go into the chambers and walk along the guard’s passageway, and I’ll tell you all the stories. Prejmer’s fortress is so amazing it’s been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day trip to Balea Lake & Sibiu

Balea Lake: Located at 2034m, it’s the higher glacier lake in Romania and to get here we take the “Transfagarasan” highway through the Fagaras Mountains, the highest and largest of Romania. Transfagarasan road was a challenge to build and it’s a challenge now for both the car and driver.
The road is opened only during May till October.

SibiuSibiu: Known in German under the name Hermannstadt, Sibiu has always been the most important center of the German minority in Transylvania. Nowadays, Sibiu has the most numerous German community in Romania but also a fairly important Hungarian community. Still, Sibiu is a city with a predominant Romanian population (95% of the population is of Romanian origin) which knew how to preserve and mingle the 3 cultures to which the culture of other existing minorities was added.
Legend has it that the lost children of Hamelin came out of the ‘Almasch’ caves (Varghis) in Transilvania, somewhere near the nowadays location of Sibiu. This is the romanticized explanation of a unique phenomenon which explains the appearance of a blond-haired blue-eyed people on these lands, who spoke German and lived by the customs of peoples living thousands of kilometers away. In effect, the fortresses and fortified villages in Transylvania were founded in the 12th century by immigrants coming from the Moselle valley area, known under the name of Saxons.
